The 24th Huron Fringe Birding Festival
will be held
May 27 to 30 and June 2-5, 2022.
Registration will be active on April 15 at 6 am
NEW: We are offering early bird (6:00 to 8:30) and mid-morning (9:00 to 11:30) events in the Park
Generally, morning events return to the Visitor Centre by 11:30 am; afternoon and all-day events return by 4:30 pm; ⭐events by 3:00 pm. We also offer some mobility limited events. 🚗 indicates where vehicle transportation is required.
At the Visitor Centre – Coffee is available every morning. BBQ lunches hosted by Friends of MacGregor Point Park from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm every day (cash and debit).
Drop-in Bird Banding the 1st Saturday/Sunday. Vortex Vendor Booth the 1st Saturday. Quest Nature Tours Booth the 2nd Saturday/Sunday.
Youth (10-21) are welcome on Festival events (ages 10 & 11 accompanied by an adult who is also registered for that event). Children under 10 are not allowed on Festival events.
Everyone involved with the Festival must be fully vaccinated as per government Covid-19 guidelines
Masking is required at the registration tent and all events in enclosed spaces

A12 7:15pm to 8:30pmHow to identify a sparrow before you see it. The commoners, the migrants and those difficult “LBJs”. Fred is a master teacher who will share his strategies for identifying this confusing family.

A30 6:15am to 4:30pmMark will take you on roads less travelled and places less visited. The tip of the Saugeen Bruce Peninsula offers top birding at several hidden hot spots.
Birds at the top of the peninsula are always a fun mix of species where the roads are less travelled and the places less visited. Mark lived there for a bunch of years and loved it with a passion. So let’s go there and see why. From Dyers Bay Road to Cabot Head and a few back roads and side trips to places like Crane Lake, Brinkman’s Corners, and maybe even some parts of the National Park.

A35 7:30am to 11:30amThe Park offers a variety of bird-rich habitats. James will take us to where the birds are. Merlin may be nesting and the Winter Wren may serenade us with its sweet song.

A40 1:30pm to 4:30pmDiscover flora and fauna that make their home in swamps, marshes and ponds - from carnivorous plants to insects, spiders, frogs, snakes and turtles, and of course the birds that specialize in these wetlands.
A41 1:30pm to 4:30pmThis is a hands-on event. Work with a master tradesman as Marshall reveals the scientific secrets of his Bluebird/Tree Swallow house design. Each participant will build a box and learn the best mounting practices.

A42 7:15pm to 8:30pmEverybody loves penguins! Based on his experience on 25 polar cruises to the Antarctic as staff ornithologist, zodiac driver and general dogsbody, David will touch on the biology, breeding, ecology and conservation of these fascinating and wonderful creatures.

Visit the BUTTERFLY GARDENS OF SAUGEEN SHORES - explore on your own
Visit the Butterfly Gardens of Saugeen Shores. Explore on your own (bike or walk). Gardens are located along the Captain Spence Path in Southampton, at the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre, Perkins Park, and along the Saugeen Rail Trail. Admission is free. There is also a Butterfly Garden outside the Visitor Centre at MacGregor Point Provincial Park.

Visit the Butterfly Gardens of Saugeen Shores. Explore on your own (bike or walk). Gardens are located along the Captain Spence Path in Southampton, at the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre, Perkins Park and along the Saugeen Rail Trail. Admission is free. There is also a Butterfly Garden outside the Visitor Centre at MacGregor Point Provincial Park.
