The 26th Huron Fringe Birding Festival
will be held
May 24 to 30 and May 30 - June 2, 2024.
Online Registration will be active on March 15 at 6 am

Electronic waivers will be completed prior to the Festival to save time on your arrival date!
ALL-DAY EVENT participants will park, register and depart from the Campers Beach Parking Lot.
Most other events will start at the Visitor Centre. Generally, morning events return to the Visitor Centre by 11:30am (11:00am mornings of Nature Showcase); afternoon and all-day events return to their respective parking lots by 4:30pm (3:30pm on 1st Saturday); โญevents by 3:00 pm.
We also offer some mobility limited events. This ๐ indicates where vehicle transportation is required.
Every day at the Visitor Centre โ Early morning coffee & treats. BBQ lunches daily 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.
NATURE SHOWCASE at the Visitor Centre 11:00 am (1st Saturday/Sunday and 2nd Saturday)
Youth (10-21) are welcome on Festival events (ages 10 & 11 accompanied by an adult who is also registered for that event). Children under 10 are not allowed on Festival events.

We will visit some of the unique ecosystems that exist within the Park.

A10 7:15pm to 8:30pmSarah has taken her passions from coast to coast in Canada and to Antartica where she carried out research on Gentoo Penguins. With a title like - "Beaks and Brushes: Discover the unseen lives of penguins at sea and how we can share stories through wildlife art" - how could you go wrong! You will be captivated by how sound research, art and conservation can bring the unseen lives of Gentoo Penguins to life! Discover how Sarah shares stories through wildlife art about this breaking research on penguins.

A41 7:15pm to 8:30pmGreat Lakes dunes are globally rare habitat, and incredibly interesting ribbons of life along the shoreline. They have their own unique processes, species and geological origins. Join Jenna for a journey through the stories and ecology of the dunes of the Huron Fringe.

This area of the Park has lots to offer.
A47 8:00am to 11:00amLearn secrets for improving your nature-themed photography using easy-to-understand techniques from an experienced photographer. Bring a camera that has manual controls. A tripod would be handy.

A48 1:30pm to 4:30pmBeth will provide an overview of the local geology at MacGregor Point on a geological walk to see ancient coral reefs and post-glacial beaches.
A49 1:30pm to 4:30pmJoin an experienced photographer and explore photo opportunities walking a wetland habitat. Learn how to compose and make your images โpopโ. Bring a camera that has manual controls.
Evening
A50 7:15pm to 8:30pmBeth will take you on a visual journey of her work over the past 20 years preserving wild spaces with the Bruce Trail Conservancy, and endangered wildlife with the Toronto Zoo Wildlife Conservancy.

Visit the Butterfly Gardens of Saugeen Shores. Explore on your own (bike or walk). Gardens are located along the Captain Spence Path in Southampton, at the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre, Perkins Park, and along the Saugeen Rail Trail. Admission is free. There is also a Butterfly Garden outside the Visitor Centre at MacGregor Point Provincial Park.

The Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre in Southampton is open 10am to 5pm for those participants who remain in the area between festival weekends.

For 3 years we have had the pleasure of watching a pair of American Kestrels nest and raise their young in a Kestrel/Screech Owl box mounted on our workshop and visible from our back porch. This photo essay will review the life history of the Kestrel with intimate views of their nesting behaviour thanks to an โin-the-boxโ camera as well as images captured from photo blinds. We will see the differing behaviours of the male and female parents as well as what the avian neighbours think of having a pair of nesting kestrels in their territories!

B22 9:15pmAn indoor introduction to binocular astronomy will show participants why binoculars are a good option for astronomy, how to choose a good set of binoculars, and will highlight some of the best binocular objects in the sky (including the moon). Following this indoor session, members of the Bluewater Astronomical Society will have their telescopes available for viewing the dark sky down near the water. BYOB (binoculars).

There will be a cornucopia of Nature Photo opportunities ranging from landscapes both large and small, orchids, birds, and a variety of nature shots. A wee bit of architectural photography may present itself. This will be a long day as we will have to get to the farthest point of trip which will be an hour and 15 minute drive. From there we will wend our way south and photographing at various locations as hard back to the park. We go rain or shine. Walking ranges from easy to difficult. Further updates will be in the website in the spring. Bring Lunch and snacks,; will be back for supper; carpooling will be necessary as parking is limited in some places . Caveat: What we see and photograph will depend on the type of Spring Mother Nature presents in 2024. Check the website for target species and locations.
